The best way I can describe Donnie is to relay a personal experience.
Donnie was performing Y2K readiness analysis and happened to review code that I had developed. At the time, I had recently graduated college and was working at a help desk seeking every opportunity to find a full time role as a programmer.
After Donnie performed the review, he sent me an email telling me what a good job I had done with the code and how he was impressed with my comments and organization.
I was so impressed that someone as busy as Donnie was at the time would make the effort to contact me and build me up -- especially considering we did not work together. The confidence boost that email gave me made such an impact that I still have it today (9 years later) and have referred to it frequently during mentoring sessions with other developers.
To put the story in perspective, Donnie's attention to detail and willingness to go the extra mile affect more that just the projects he is involved with, in my case it taught me first hand the value in positive reinforcement and recognizing the efforts of those around me.

Working with Donnie is safety. Donnie wrote custom code for my media applications and simply saved my project by delivering not only what was ordered - but was able to foresee my future needs and built that into the code as well. Very impressive.
I say safety for a number of reasons. He has never failed me, he has always delivered on time and on budget, he was there for me when I suddenly needed to change course mid-project - and finally because I was always able to rely on Donnie for turning my vision into an actual working devices.
As a direct result of Donnie's outstanding work on helping me develop our Excelevision project we were successful and the client committed to a multi-year contract for our services.
A quick note on the Excelevision project: Donnie's part involved writing custom code for video based Touch Screens that updated themselves from my satellite receiver/server.
Donnie also helped us write code to control video hardware with motion detectors, triggering playback of playlists based on entry or exit into a location. Exciting stuff! And I could not have pulled it off without Donnie.
